- Raised in Lansdowne and Newboro, John Rapin learned a strong work ethic early working on his family’s dairy and mixed farming operation.
- He graduated from Queen’s School of Medicine and today works in the Kingston General Hospital Emergency Department and the urgent Care Centre at Hotel Dieu Hospital.
- In 2004-2005 his knowledge of health matters and leadership skills were recognized when the Ontario Medical Association elected him president. He now serves on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Medical Association.
- John has a keen interest in the history of Kingston and the Islands, is active in the restoration of historic buildings in downtown Kingston and has a strong commitment to the environment and the arts.
- Despite his busy professional schedule, he has been active in several community organizations and activities.
- Raised in a Swiss-Canadian family, John is fluently bilingual in both English and French.
- He is the father of 3 boys and 1 daughter, a new grandfather, and he and his wife, Lyn, an artist, live in the west end of the City of Kingston.
